GALILEO FY 2011 Additions and Changes

We are happy to announce that GALILEO will be able to maintain all current database offerings for FY2011 in spite of significant budget cuts, if the budget stands as allocated. This is possible because many GALILEO vendors have provided pricing concessions.

In addition, most GALILEO participating institutions will see increases in the number of databases available to them via GALILEO. This is due to either their participation in GALILEO ProQuest subscriptions, or in changes that individual consortia have made to their database selections for FY2011.

Here is a listing of additions and changes to database offerings for FY2011, which begins July 1, 2010:

Addition

All institutions currently participating in GALILEO ProQuest will receive additional content due to ProQuest’s upgraded package, which provides many additional databases and new newspaper content, including the current Atlanta Journal Constitution. The upgraded package includes:

Addition

ProQuest has offered access to Research Library and ProQuest Newspapers to the public and private K12 schools free of charge due to the overall ProQuest purchase by GALILEO institutions.

Addition

The University System and some AMPALS and GPALS institutions have opted to get the NetLibrary Lyrasis Shared Collection 9, which will include 2,500 to 3,000 titles. The collection is projected to include content from leading publishers such as McGraw-Hill, Oxford University Press, AMACOM, Taylor & Francis and university presses.

Change

All Technical College System of Georgia institutions will switch from LexisNexis Academic to WestLaw Campus Research.

We are working with vendors to make these additions/changes available via the GALILEO interface beginning tomorrow, July 1, 2011; however, due to licensing procedures, some databases may not be available until shortly after July 1. Please check GALILEO News for further updates.
