Jessica Banks

Associate Professor (Middle Grades Education/Curriculum)
Columbus State University

Bio

Jessica VanValkenburgh Banks is Associate Professor of Middle Grades Education/Curriculum and Instruction at Columbus State University, where she teaches a variety of in-person and online courses. She specializes in parent and family involvement in education.  Her most recent research has also included best practices in science education, mentoring new and current teachers, and how to best support current teachers as they continue their education. 

Dr. Banks prides herself on her service to the community. She enjoys working with local school districts to improve parent involvement. She also prefers to work on action research projects that will immediately impact the university and community. In Spring 2023, she was awarded the College of Education and Health Professions Service Award for her ongoing commitment to the college and the community. In Spring 2024 she was awarded the College of Education and Health Professions Online Teaching award for her excellence in online education and the unwavering support she gives her students.
