Winner of the GALILEO Prize at the Georgia Student Media Festival
We are delighted to announce the winner of the GALILEO staff prize for the best use of GALILEO in a student media project. The Georgia Student Media Festival is held every year to judge all of the K-12 student media projects from around the state that were sent on from their districts. This year there were almost 1000 projects. A panel of judges (shown in picture, right), including Roslyn Wells (Technology Specialist Richmond County Schools), Dr. Jennifer Walts (Curriculum Coordinator, Liberty County Schools) and Richard Walker (Liberty County Schools), reviewed the projects that used GALILEO. The winner of the GALILEO staff prize is Vicky Tettelbach’s fourth grade class from Hopkins Elementary School in Gwinnett County, who submitted a digital magazine called “The Wild Underwater Zoo.” The students wrote articles about interesting sea creatures with their own illustrations, citing GALILEO resources on almost every page. What a great use of GALILEO resources! The GALILEO staff has presented a Flip Video camera to Vicky Tettelbach as a gift of appreciation and encouragement. The GALILEO staff hope to sponsor the prize again next year; teachers and media specialists, get ready to win next time if your class projects make good use and citation of GALILEO resources.
