Tip: Find Historical Newspapers in DLG

In honor of Georgia Archives Month, we are offering tips this month on finding historical records in the Digital Library of Georgia.

Last week, we talked about how to find different types of historical records. This week, we will focus on the historical newspapers collections. To see a list, go to Browse by Media Type and choose Newspapers.

Historical newspapers offer an intriguing peek into the past - from events and advertisements to local human interest stories and obituaries. Also, because the DLG has scanned images of the entire page, you can also catch a glimpse of the culture of the era - from the fashions and technologies in the ads to the typefaces and writing styles in the newspapers.

In the DLG, you’ll find historical newspapers from Atlanta, Athens, Columbus, Macon, Milledgeville, and South Georgia as well as student newspapers from the University of Georgia, The University Bumble Bee and The Red and Black. See a full list.

You will need the DjVu plugin in view the newspaper pages. Download DjVu, and see our FAQ if you see any problems.
