GALILEO 30th Anniversary Art Contest Winner is Fayette County Student

12th-grader Bonnie Liu is the winner of the GALILEO 30th Anniversary Art Contest. She is a student at Starr’s Mill High School in Fayette County.

Bonnie’s entry, “GALILEO’s 30th Birthday,” placed first among entries from across the state that included elementary, middle and high school students.

Additional winners included:

  • Second Place/Honorable Mention: Morgan Clark, 7th grader, Rockdale County Schools

  • Third Place/Honorable Mention: Elizabeth Askew, 7th grader, Rockdale County Schools

  • Fourth Place/Honorable Mention: Ryleigh Tealer, 7th grader, Rockdale County Schools

Bonnie’s entry will appear on promotional items for GALILEO’s 30th anniversary through the next year. In her artist statement, Bonnie said:

“I wanted to make something playful to celebrate GALILEO turning 30, so I drew three squirrels (because they’re curious like students) throwing a birthday party on the moon!

“They’re holding up a big cake, and around them are books, a camera, and a computer—things we use to learn, explore, and be creative.

“GALILEO has helped students like me discover new stuff for years, so this drawing is like a thank-you and a celebration rolled into one. Learning should feel fun, and that’s what I tried to show!”
