This Day in Georgia History: June 22, 1990 - Bobby Cox - Braves General Manager and Coach

On this day in 1990, Bobby Cox, then general manager for the Atlanta Braves, took on the additional responsibility of coaching the team. In 1991, when forced to choose between his position as general manager or head coach, the Braves are quite fortunate that he chose to coach. That year, he led the team through their famous worst-to-first season, starting a winning streak of 14 consecutive division titles from 1991-2005. Bobby Cox is scheduled to retire this year, leaving some tough shoes to fill. Read more about him and his career in the New Georgia Encyclopedia.
