Olympic Games: Past and Present

The London 2012 Olympic Games will be starting this week. If you’ve caught Olympic fever and want to know more about the games, GALILEO has that for you.

You’ll find many interesting magazine articles in MasterFILE Elite, including a look at the architecture built for the games as well as speculations over who will carry the torch and light the cauldron for the opening ceremonies.

You can also get the scoop on some athletes to watch in different sports, like swimming, boxing, and more, and you can get a look ahead at the Paralympic Games that will start in August.

For some history, MAS Ultra offers magazine articles covering highlights from several past Olympics, and, for those institutions that subscribe, Encyclopædia Britannica has an extensive article discussing the history of the game as well as past Olympics.

You can even look back and remember the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. Take a look at the Atlanta 1996 article in Encyclopædia Britannica, the New Georgia Encyclopedia, and GeorgiaInfo for the year that Olympic athletes came here to Georgia.
