National Book Month: Finding the Next Book

October is National Book Month, an annual celebration of writers and readers. In honor of this celebration, we are offering tips each week this month on how to use GALILEO resources to find books and authors along with reviews and criticism.

Last week, we looked at how to find genre lists and award-winning book lists in NoveList.

This week, let’s look at how to find the next book to read by finding more books like a favorite or by locating the series list.

To find more books like a favorite in NoveList, type the name of your favorite book and choose that title from the results list. In the book information, look to the right of the screen for recommendations in the NoveList Also Recommends section. Or, scroll down to see the Search for More section on the lower right of the screen. Choose the terms that describe what you liked best about the book and then click Search to see other books matching those terms.

To find a series list in NoveList, just type the title of the series or one of the books in the series. Click the series title name in the results to get a list of the books. You can sort by Date Ascending and change the view to Detailed to see a list in order. Note that you can click the Print This View link to get a quick list. Note that you can also find a similar series by looking at the NoveList Also Recommends section on the right or by using the Search for More section in the lower right.

In the next two weeks, we will see how to find more authors like a favorite author and how to find literary criticism.
