Library Journal’s 2024 Librarian of the Year to Serve as Conference Keynote Speaker

Lisa Varga, Library Journal’s 2024 Librarian of the Year, will be the keynote speaker for the GALILEO Annual Conference in June.

Varga is currently the executive director of the Virginia Library Association (VLA), a leading professional organization representing more than 5,000 library professionals across Virginia.

For the past dozen years, Varga has run the association out of her home, with the assistance of an elected executive committee and many volunteers who run programs and forums. As the VLA’s leader, she champions the important role libraries play in their communities.

In 2024, Library Journal recognized her efforts, naming her Librarian of the Year.

She is a member and immediate past chair of the Virginia Beach Public Library Board. She is an active member of the Virginia Society of Association Executives and the American Library Association Policy Corps, where she plays a key role in the Unite Against Book Bans program.

Lisa is a sought-after speaker, presenting locally and nationally on a range of library and association-related topics.

She will speak in person at the GALILEO Annual Conference on June 4. Registration is open now.
