GALILEO Discontinuation of Support for IE 6 Browser
GALILEO is discontinuing support for the Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) browser as of June 2010. The decision to drop support for IE6 is based on the incompatibility of the browser with modern HTML and CSS coding standards, such that it requires time-consuming and non-standard coding workarounds in order to display web pages correctly. While no known issues occur when using the IE6 browser with GALILEO at this time, discontinuation of support means that no future development will be conducted to ensure that new features and pages work in the IE6 browser. An IE6 user who encounters an issue with GALILEO that is related to the IE6 browser could need to switch to a supported browser.
While Microsoft will maintain support for IE6 until the Windows XP Service Pack 3 edition is retired in 2013, they are encouraging users to switch to IE8. Many major websites, including Google, have already dropped support for IE6.
The GALILEO browser and computer configuration guidelines have been revised to reflect the change in support for IE6.
