GALILEO Back-to-School Guide for K-12

Welcome to a new school year, educators! To be sure you’re equipped with the GALILEO materials that can help you this school year, we’ve compiled a list of items, events and news to assist you as you get back started.

1. New EBSCO User Interface: By now, you should know that EBSCO Discovery Service has a new user interface. We’ve been working to integrate it across our user views, and by mid-August, K-12 schools should see the change. Sign up for training or access this recording to prepare.

2. K-12 Top GALILEO Databases: Our top K-12 resources include Britannica School, ProQuest (SIRS Discoverer), Ebooks from EBSCO and Ebook Central, and Explora for elementary, middle and high school. Learn more and access the express links on this handout.

3. GALILEO K-12 Fall Showcase: We missed many of you at our annual conference in June! So we’re planning to host a fall showcase where you can share your use of GALILEO. Sessions can be 15 minutes to 60 minutes. For more info and to send us your proposals, visit this link.

4. GALILEO K-12 Engagement: We’re looking for new members of the GALILEO Ambassadors group. This school year, the group will assist with the fall K-12 showcase, regional K-12 meetings in South Georgia, GALILEO Ambassador Award and the GALILEO Annual Conference. The first meeting will be August 3. Please contact our marketing staff at joy.woodson@usg.edu if interested in serving.

5. Digital Library of Georgia: DLG has many helpful educator resources [for grades 2-5 and 8, including exhibits, lesson sets, classroom posters with captivating visual content that aligns primary resources linked to Georgia history and culture with more than 40 Georgia Standards of Excellence, helping Georgia K-12 teachers best serve the academic interests and needs of their students.

6. GALILEO Annual Survey: The GALILEO Annual Survey will open on Nov. 1. This year, the survey will be password-protected. Stay tuned to our website or sign up for our newsletter to stay updated on how this will work.

7. New Resources:Have you seen our new bento box poster? Here it is! We’d love for your school library to have one. Sign your library up here, and we will get a poster out to you. (It’s also available for you to print it out yourself.)

8. On-Demand Learning: Miss any of our trainings? Access video presentations anytime via our YouTube channel or training page.
