FOLIO and OpenRS January 2025 Update
The migration of the university system libraries (which includes two law school libraries and the Georgia Archives) is on track for a go-live in summer 2025.
This new FOLIO and OpenRS platform is open source, which means that we are reliant not only on our vendor partner, EBSCO, but also on the larger community of libraries that are helping to develop this code.
One very large consortia went live this past summer (MOBIUS), and the Library of Congress is now also live on some FOLIO applications. The GALILEO Interconnected Libraries (GIL) community was active in the latest “bugfest,” testing out the FOLIO code to make sure it meets community needs.
We’ll start specific functionality testing in our local pre-implementation environment in the next few weeks.
Here’s a rough timeline of what we expect to happen in the next six months:
February – April:
- GIL teams finalize workflows in FOLIO pre-implementation environments.
- EBSCO hosts training for key practitioners.
- Initial data migration testing and cleanup work is completed.
- Acceptance Testing begins.
May:
- GIL User Group Meeting (GUGM) in Macon
- Individual library implementation (data extracts, iterations, ongoing acceptance testing, etc.)
- Dress Rehearsal – Full extraction of all data. Final acceptance testing takes place.
- All staff receive final go-live training.
