Find Planes and Pilots in GALILEO

As we come to the end of Aviation History Month, let’s take a look at a few resources in GALILEO to explore the history of avaiation in Georgia and throughout the world.

For a look back at how Georgia has contributed to the history of flight, take a look at these articles in the New Georgia Encyclopedia. You can read about Hazel Raines, the first woman in Georgia to earn a pilot’s license; about Ben Epps, the father of aviatian in Georgia; or about Charles Dryden, one of the Tuskegee Airmen and member of the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame. Did you know that Charles Lindbergh made his solo flight in Georgia? You can also read about that in the NGE and see the historical marker in GeorgiaInfo. For more historical photographs, search the Digital Library of Georgia for planes or airplanes.

For a broader look at avaiation history, see the History of Flight article in Encyclopædia Britannica. You can also search History Reference Center for aviation, aeronautics, air pilots, airships, or airplanes or read current issues of Aviation History magazine. Note that you can receive emails when a new issue of this magazines is added by clicking on the Alert/Save/Share link and clicking Email Alert.
