New Guide: Anti-Racism Resources in GALILEO
We’ve compiled a list of resources available through GALILEO for those who would like to gain a better understanding of what anti-racism is, as well as the origins of present-day social justice movements, such as Black Lives Matter.
This is just a selection of the many resources on these topics available in GALILEO for Georgia residents. The compiled resources are separated in the following categories:
Anti-Racism Reads: This page features a list of ebooks and ebook series freely available in GALILEO on anti-racism. This guide also includes several popular book titles on anti-racism that can be found as traditional or ebooks at local libraries or through GALILEO at various academic institutions.
Historical Reads: This page features a list of ebooks freely available in GALILEO that document the historical context of racism and inequality in America, the South and Georgia. Resources include first-hand accounts of living in the South and a Supreme Court decision in Georgia on “whether a Negro can hold public office.”
Research Topic Pages: This page features New Georgia Encyclopedia articles on Black civil rights leaders in Georgia, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and the 1906 Atlanta race riots, and more.
Videos: This page features videos such as Eyes on the Prize, a compilation of more than 100 videos featuring Stokely Carmichael, civil rights activist and leader of Black nationalism; Myrlie Evers, civil rights activist and widow of Medgar Evers; and John Lewis, civil rights icon and Georgia congressman.
Photos: This page features images of Black leaders in Georgia, as well as photos from civil rights marches in Atlanta during the 1960s.
