Tip: Find Historical Records from Your County

In honor of Georgia Archives Month, we have been offering tips on finding historical records in the Digital Library of Georgia.

In the last two weeks, we looked at how to find different types of historical records, and we took a look at the historical newspaper collections.

Today, let’s talk about finding historical records about your county. In the Digital Library of Georgia, go to Browse by County and choose your county from a list. You’ll see a list of DLG collections that include images or texts from your county. If you click on the title of these collections, you will go directly to the records related to your county. For example, if you choose Muscogee County in the list of counties and click Vanishing Georgia to see historical images, you will get a list of items from Muscogee County in that collection.

By the way, if you’re looking for more local history, see the Cities and Counties section of the New Georgia Encyclopedia, or check out the Cities and Counties sections of GeorgiaInfo.
