News on GALILEO E-Resources (2026)

GALILEO continues to evaluate its E-Resource offerings, including accessibility standards, database availability, and open access. Read below for more information on these items and ways you can get involved.

Accessibility

GALILEO works to ensure that online resources are accessible to everyone, which includes preparing for changes to ADA Title II digital accessibility requirements for state and local government websites which will begin to go into effect on April 24. These efforts include:

We’re currently surveying member libraries about their planning for changes to ADA title II. The survey was sent to library deans and directors, so check with yours or email john.stephens@usg.edu if you have questions related to ADA Title II change preparedness.

You can also email John to join the GALILEO Accessibility Committee listserv for discussion, invitations to future meetings, updates on our participation in Library Accessibility Alliance, and other training opportunities.

Content

The new year begins the march towards July 1 fiscal year renewals. Currently, no major changes a planned for statewide GALILEO content, but we continually evaluate new offers and ways to expand opt-in ordering.

We plan to conduct another E-Resources survey in early spring to help identify new resources, and we’ve also created an E-Resources suggestion form to encourage more recommendations. In the meantime, please email john.stephens@usg.edu if you have suggestions and questions about the E-Resources GALILEO offers.

Open Access

Last year, we finalized a journal agreement with Elsevier that include an option for participating members to publish open access, joining our agreements for American Chemical Society, Cambridge, and Sage. Participating members with publish approximately 1000 articles in 2026 under these agreements.

If you’re interested in collaborating on Open Access purchasing and management, please consider joining the GALILEO Open Access Committee, which meets regularly to discuss GALILEO Open Access strategy and provide training opportunities. To join the list or share suggestions or questions, please email john.stephens@usg.edu.
