January Newsletter: Welcoming the New Year
If you missed the GALILEO e-newsletter, check out the highlights below.
Letter from the Director: We continue to improve the GALILEO search portal and content, as well! Much of our strategic planning is centered on that effort. Over the holiday break, we did a soft rollout of some new functionality that you may not have noticed.
Users can now choose to customize the way the GALILEO Bento boxes appear on their screen and save that in the browser for future sessions. Click on the little “gear” icon in the Bento search to explore that new functionality.
We’ve also been gathering lots of feedback on your wishes for GALILEO. As you might expect, AI was the buzzword for 2023, and we’re definitely looking into that.
Strategic Plan Update: Inside the annual survey, we asked librarians for specific input on our future plans. Based on the results, it appears areas to investigate are: * Data literacy training for adults/college * More Open Access content * A GALILEO Search app * A better “did you mean” functionality * A more kid-friendly interface for K-12 * Integration of AI to help with searching
GALILEO Annual Survey: The results are in! The GALILEO Annual Survey took place Nov. 1-17, and we analyzed 1,339 survey submissions. According to the results, 88 percent of you all agree or strongly agree that GALILEO is a valuable resource. Thank you! We will release highlights on our social media platforms.
EBSCO FOLIO Update: For the USG libraries (and the Archives), the migration to FOLIO and OpenRS is moving full steam ahead. We are in the middle of implementing the linked data portion (Bibliograph) and the new analytics platform (Panorama). Look for more details as we formally start implementation in the spring.
Digital Library of Georgia: The DLG is soliciting presentations for its virtual partner event, April 17-18, 2024, “Openness: Expanding Collections, Communities, and Reuse.” Partners may propose a traditional presentation, a shorter “partner spotlight,” or a 5-minute lightning talk. Sign up to present by Feb. 14.
