GALILEO Newsletter: Back-to-School Edition

Welcome back to a new school year, educators! We hope you did something exciting OR relaxing with your summer. Now, it’s time to get back to it.

Below you will find an abbreviated list of helpful resources for you as you begin. We’ve outlined everything we want you to know in our back-to-school e-newsletter, which you can read here.

General Updates:

  • Affordable Learning Georgia is celebrating 10 years of affordable learning excellence! Since its inception, ALG has saved more than 1 million University System of Georgia students an estimated $175 million in textbook costs through its grants program.

  • GALILEO Search will soon see embeddable bento boxes! This will give you the ability to capture embed code for bento boxes so that they can be easily added to your library’s website. Stay tuned for more on this exciting, new capability.

College Information:

  • View new e-resources! We have recently added new content for the GALILEO higher education community. View our guide for additional information on these resources. All resources are available to USG schools, and some are available to all higher education institutions.

  • The FOLIO transition is underway! The libraries of the University System of Georgia are halfway through their migration to a new open source library management system, FOLIO. While the new system won’t be fully live until summer 2025, librarians will start using some pieces in the next couple of months. Stay updated here.

K-12 Information:

  • Time to check in. Are your contacts and IP addresses up to date? As the school year begins, it is important to make sure that your students and teachers can seamlessly access GALILEO content. Contact our support team for help with this.

  • Check out educator resources. If you haven’t been there recently, take a look at the K-12 educator resources available at the New Georgia Encyclopedia and the Digital Library of Georgia. These two home-grown GALILEO partner programs are fantastic resources for any K-12 teachers.
