Celebrate National Library Workers Day 2012 with GALILEO

In honor of National Library Workers Day during National Library Week 2012, here are a few of the professional development resources that are available for library staff in GALILEO.

Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts (LISTA) and Information Science & Technology Abstracts (ISTA) contain abstracts and some linked full text articles on a wide range of library-related topics, such as information management, librarianship, online information retrieval, printed and electronic information sources, search engines, scholarly communication, and the information industry.

If you need a way to keep up with all the articles you find, you can create a free My EBSCOhost account and save items to your My EBSCOhost Folder, or you could try out one of the free bibliographic citation managers, such as Zotero (see archived webinar on Zotero).

Academic Search Complete, MasterFILE Premier, and Research Library also include many library-related publications, such as Library Technology Reports, Library Journal, School Library Journal, Young Adult Library Services, Computers in Libraries, Library Media Connection, Library Hi Tech, Public Libraries, Library Trends, Teacher Librarian, and many more.

To keep up with your favorite publications, both EBSCO and ProQuest databases allow you to set up search alerts and journal alerts in which you receive an email when an article matching your search or the next issue of the magazine or journal of your choice is added to the database.

For a list of all the magazines and journals in the areas of information technology and library and information sciences, see the Journals and Magazines tab under Library and Information Sciences, which appears in Library and Scholar.

If you’re looking for help with readers’ advisory, NoveList includes genre outlines, book display ideas, and many helpful resources for improving readers’ advisory services. Go to NoveList and click on Readers’ Advisory Toolbox on the right of the screen.

Last, but not least, GALILEO offers free, online training to interested library staff. Check out the Course Catalog for upcoming sessions. Or, take a look at the Archives section for past webinars.
