How do I create a search box for Consumer Reports for my library website?

Libraries may add a search widget for Consumer Reports to their library website. The widget enables patrons to easily search the past two or all available years of Consumer Reports in one easy step.

To setup the the search widget, please follow the steps below:

  1. Download the widget code here. The text file is HTML code you will copy/paste into your website.
  2. Shown below is a snippet from the widget code. Notice there are two placeholders in the code (XXXX and SITEPROFILE). These items will need to be replaced with information that is unique to your library. To obtain this information, please contact GALILEO Support by using the contact us form.
  3. <input type="hidden" name="proxy" value="" />
        <input type="hidden" name="profile" value="SITEPROFILE" />
  4. After obtaining information from GALILEO Support, you can add the code to your website.
  5. After entering a search term and clicking “Go,” patrons will be redirected to a results list that has been limited to Consumer Reports (see screenshot below).
    Note: Patrons accessing remotely will be prompted for their library’s GALILEO password before being directed to the results list.

Note: Loading the HTML code on your local computer will not display properly (images will be broken). The code will need to be uploaded to your website for images to display properly.
