Question

How can librarians and media specialists be notified of GALILEO password changes?

Answer

GALILEO distributes passwords by email to designated contacts at each institution. GALILEO passwords change quarterly, and GALILEO passwords are sent to password contacts approximately one month prior to the date of the scheduled change.

Password contacts are library deans and directors and any additional staff they designate.

Media center staff serve as GALILEO’s password contacts at K-12 schools. GALILEO does not give passwords directly to students, library patrons, or other faculty or staff.

GALILEO Support Services maintain a database of password contacts. If the password contacts or contact information at your institution should change, please report these changes to GALILEO Support Services. Please contact us when password recipients leave your institution or new password contacts need to be added.

All K-12 media center staff may submit their email addresses to receive passwords.

Single Sign-On and OpenAthens

Many GALILEO institutions use Single Sign-On (SSO) via OpenAthens. If a valid GALILEO user is presented with your institution’s login information and does not have credentials (userid/password), please contact your institution’s technical support staff.

At this time, institutions using SSO also have GALILEO passwords, and password contacts will receive a quarterly password update.
