About GALILEO

Usage Statistics

How do I access GALILEO usage data? The GALILEO Usage Statistics Reporting Tool allows institutions to run reports on usage data generated from the GALILEO system and collected from our database vendors.

When is the GALILEO Usage Statistics Reporting Tool updated? The GALILEO Usage Statistics Reporting Tool is updated monthly; typically around the third week of each month. Each update is announced over the GALILEO Statistics Listserv. Please Contact Us to be added to the GALILEO Statistics Listserv in order to receive monthly updates and general information about GALILEO statistics.

Where does data in the GALILEO Usage Reporting Tool come from? Data in the GALILEO Reporting Tool is comprised of data from the GALILEO system and data collected from our database vendors. For more details about the data, please see the GALILEO Statistics tab.

Is the data in the GALILEO Reporting Tool COUNTER Compliant? While we strive to use COUNTER compliant data in the Reporting Tool where possible, currently vendor usage data that we load into the Reporting Tool isn’t COUNTER compliant. For more information on COUNTER data, please see the Other Data tab.

How would I run a report for a group of institutions? The GALILEO Reporting Tool allows you to group institutions to their respective GALILEO user group (USG, TCSG, GPLS, AMPALS/GPALS, Public K12 and Private K12). When selecting institutions, you can click on the “Select Institutions by Group” sub tab to group your institution with the other institutions in your user group.

How would I run a report for a group of databases from a particular vendor? When selecting a database you wish to run a report for, you can select the sub-tab “Select Databases by Vendor” to view databases group by database vendor.

How can I find usage data for our Discovery Search? The GALILEO Discovery Search (EDS) is an EBSCO product, so the best way to view EDS data is to limit the list of databases in the Stats Tool by the vendor EBSCO. In the list of EBSCO databases, you will see a list of “EBSCO Discovery Service” profiles. Each profile matches the different GALILEO interfaces that are available: Scholar, Library, High School, Teen and Kids.

Can a usage report be ran for my specific Public K12 or Public Library? Unfortunately, since Public K12’s and Public Libraries’ access is managed at the district and regional level, the GALILEO Reporting Tool is only able to report data for the district and region and not for individual institutions in these two user groups.

Can reports be saved for later viewing? Yes, once a report has been ran in the GALILEO Reporting Tool, you can click on the “Bookmarks” sub-tab and save the URL contained on the Bookmarks page.

Why am I seeing zeros for one resource, while I’m seeing data for another resource for the same month? While we try to include as much data from our vendors as we can obtain, the data available in the Reporting Tool isn’t comprehensive for every database. For information on what data is available in the Reporting Tool for each vendor, please see the Data Availability Timeline.

Why am I seeing no data when I run a report for a recent month? Since most of the data in the GALILEO Reporting Tool is data that we collect and load from our database vendors, this data isn’t all available until the 3rd week of the following month. We announce the loading of vendor data each month over the GALILEO Statistics Listserv. Please Contact Us in order to be added for monthly updates.

Is usage data for my institution’s locally integrated resources (GLRI) in the Reporting Tool? Since GALILEO doesn’t have a contractual relationship with institution’s local resources, we are unable to load vendor data into the GALILEO Reporting Tool from these vendors. However, for each resource you have added through GLRI, you can run a report on Links Chosen data for these resources.
