Navigating Open Education in the Library World
Summary
Librarians have been central to the emerging practice of adopting, adapting, creating, and sharing open educational resources (OER), especially at the postsecondary level. Open educational practices have led to student textbook cost savings, day-one access to all materials for all students, and customizable materials shared among experts in academic fields. In this session, participants working with or curious about OER can engage with a panel of librarians experienced in supporting open education.
Topics covered will include:
- Supporting instructors who are new to OER and open licensing
- Understanding Creative Commons licensing and the intricacies of sharing open-licensed resources
- Facilitating workshops and conversations to raise OER awareness and capacity
- Collaborating with professional staff across your organization to build a healthy OER ecosystem
