One More Step for A Man
Today, August 5, 2010, Neil A. Armstrong, the first man to set foot on the moon, celebrates his 80th birthday. Armstrong, Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr., and Michael Collins left Earth in Apollo 11 on July 16, 1969. On July 20, Armstrong guided the Eagle landing module down to the Sea of Tranquility and then stepped onto the surface of the Moon as he said the famous words, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
You can read his and the other astronauts’ comments about this historic event in Annals of American History and read about his life and the mission to the Moon in History Reference Center or find books about him in a library near you.
