State of Georgia Marriage Register 1964-1998 Added to the Digital Library of Georgia

The Georgia Government Publications project has finished digitizing the microfiche that contains the State of Georgia Marriage Register 1964-1998.

You can browse these records in Georgia Government Publications in the Digital Library of Georgia by clicking the link to Recent Additions on the home page of Georgia Government Publications. Please note these records aren’t searchable by name, but users can browse an alphabetical list of names for each year.

The Register is produced by the Vital Records Division of the Georgia Department of Public Health. For information on obtaining copies of records, see the DPH Vital Records site.

50th Anniversary: “I Have a Dream”

On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington, D.C. On the 50the anniversary of this event, you can read the full text of the “I Have a Dream” speech in MAS Ultra in GALILEO.

Ace Your Golf Game with GALILEO

GALILEO offers quite a few golf publications and articles to help you keep up with golfing news and get tips for playing a great round.

MasterFILE Elite includes Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, Golf World, Sports Illustrated, and more. You can also search for golf to see articles from a variety of magazines.

For a look at golf in Georgia, the New Georgia Encyclopedia has several interesting articles about the Masters Tournament and several golfers, including Bobby Jones, Tommy Aaron, Louise Suggs, and more. The Digital Library of Georgia includes many wonderful historical images of golfers and golf courses in the Vanishing Georgia and Picturing Augusta collections.

You can now search for your ancestors by name in the 1940 census for all states and territories in Ancestry Library Edition.

To search the 1940 census,

1) Log in to Ancestry Library Edition (available in your Georgia public library)

2) Go the 1940 U.S. Census link at the bottom of the page

Practice for Occupational Exams with LearningExpress Library in GALILEO

Getting ready to take certification exam in a health care field? Studying for the ASVAB or the LSAT or the AT-SAT? Need a CDL endorsement? Working on a cosmetology or a real estate license? What about a getting an electrician’s or plumber’s license?

LearningExpress Library in GALILEO has practice tests for many occupation exams.

1) To get started, log in to LearningExpress Library (you may need your GALILEO password - get it from your Georgia public library)

2) Create your personal login so that you can save your work (keep this username and passsword - you’ll need it to access your information later)

3) Go to Occupation Practice Tests on the left of the screen

4) Choose the occupation in which you are interested to see a list of the practice exams available
